Energy efficiency assessment of several Vietnamese plastic factories
What Maximpact did
In 2004, Maximpact energy expert Gerard conducted energy efficiency audits in several plastic factories in Vietnam. The audits covered plastic processes including injection moulding, blow moulding, extrusion, thermoforming and compounding.
The energy efficiency audits covered all aspects of energy usage, from the production process to the utility systems, such as compressed air, vacuum plant, cooling water systems, chilled water plant and air conditioning systems.
Most of the energy used in these plastic factories is in the form of electricity, and due to the high-energy requirements of manufacturing plastic, the energy cost is the third-highest operational cost.
Findings from the energy audit
Energy savings identified varied from plant to plant but were in the region of 20% to 50% of the overall annual energy usage. Also, a benchmarking exercise was conducted to help provide insights into good and poor energy usage practices in the selected factories.
