Mozambique
Advising on solid waste management in the implementation of the Municipal Development Programme, Mozambique (PRODEM). Through the two Regional Capacity Development Unit (RCDU) solid waste management advisers based in Nampula and Pemba (north Mozambique) guide 26 municipalities to implement identified demand driven solid waste management projects in different categories including training of municipal staff, acquisition of vehicles, equipment and materials, as well as various construction works that include elevated waste deposition bunkers/platforms.

Implementation of the PHARE project EuropeAid/120601/D/SV/BG and elaboration of fiche PHARE project Strengthening the administrative capacity to ensure the effective application of the acquis communautaireof the EU waste management (CRIS No.: 2007/019-303.04.02). Participation in working groups of the European Council linked to elaboration of Framework Directive 2008/98/EC on waste. Preparation of the Ministry’s budget for Waste Management Directorate in a period 2006-2008. Introducing at a national level of the tax on packaging, vehicles, batteries and accumulators, EEE, etc. Elaboration of Financial impact assessment of legislative acts and financial analysis for separate collection and product fee for different products placed on the market (packaging, vehicles, EEE, etc.). Support to the leading Directorate in the Ministry for EIA in the part related to waste management activities.
